Fantastic Beasts

You probably need to adapt a bit at first, but in no time this book will read like a novel. And that’s pretty cool. This book is in fact the original screenplay of the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The fantasy film was released in 2016 with Eddy Redmayne in the lead role as Newt Scamander. The film is again based on the book of the same name written by JK Rowling that belongs to the Harry Potter series. It’s one of Harry Potter’s school books written by Newt Scamander. Are you still with me?

For some reason I have never read the Harry Potter books. The first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone came out in 1997 and I missed the whole hype at the time. I did my high school exams, went to university and was apparently busy with other things haha. When it became clear that people where actually sleeping in front of a bookstore to buy the next volume upon its release date, I still had something like, mwehh, it’s a children’s book … there are still many other books that I can read.

Well and then the films followed. I used to…..(yep, that is past tense)…..hate films in which something happens that is not possible in reality. I thought that was super stupid. Except for Disney and other cartoons, Mary Poppins is still my favourite! But then a friend invited me to go to the cinema and you just cannot refuse. So there I sat…..watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (third film).

Platform 9¾, muggles, Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Quidditch, Lord Voldemort, wands and spells, Ron and Hermione, Dobby, dementors and the Nimbus 2000. In no time you will be part of a whole new universe. And even worse … you will be hooked, resulting in the fact that you have to wait for years to watch the sequels. In 2011 the last film was released … the grand finale. Awesome! Thereafter you fall into a big black hole and continue with your ordinary boring life. Oh no, I moved to Australia in 2011, I did organise that pretty well, haha.

Anyway, suddenly it is 2016, you live in London and ooohhhhh, the film “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” was finally there. Splendid! My boyfriend and I were planning to go to the cinema again. But what does this Humpty Dumpty….who cannot control himself. He watched the film on a plane during one of his work trips, grrrr. A deadly sin, and I ended up watching the film on TV at home. It is brilliant, even on a small screen. A film full of crazy creatures in a very amusing story. And so is the book! Quite special, such a screenplay, it seems a bit like you are the director yourself. Try it out I would say, you will read this book in the blink of an eye.
